Answering calls
Keep your number: forward calls to your AI employee
You don't need a new number. Forward your existing business line to your AI employee with a code from your carrier, and turn it off any time.
You don't need to change the number your customers already call. Forwarding happens at your phone carrier. Your number stays yours, and you can turn forwarding off with one code at any time.
Pick how calls reach your AI employee
On Phone Numbers, or on your employee's Training tab under its phone number, choose one:
- Only calls you miss (safest start): your phone rings first. Calls you don't pick up, or that come in while you're on another call, go to your AI employee.
- Every call: your AI employee answers from the first ring. Your phone doesn't ring.
- Give out your employee's number: put its number on your website and cards. Nothing to set up.
Dial the code
Choose your phone company: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, another mobile carrier, a landline or cable phone, or a phone system or app. Nerro shows the exact codes with your AI employee's number filled in, plus the code that turns forwarding off. Press Copy, paste it into your Phone app, and press Call.
On some mobile carriers you can choose how long your phone rings first: 15, 20, 25 or 30 seconds.
Forward only after you've pressed Go live. Until then, forwarded calls go unanswered.
Check it works
Call your business line from another phone and let it ring. Once a forwarded call arrives, Nerro shows "Forwarding works". If every call is being forwarded when you meant only missed ones, it tells you.
Moving your number to Nerro instead
Moving a number (porting) is a carrier process with paperwork, and takes a few days. Most businesses don't need it. If you want to, use Contact us on the Phone Numbers page, and we do it with you.
There's also a public guide with the same codes: forward your calls to an AI.
