After you close, the phone still gets answered.
After-hours calls are a minority, but they're often the urgent ones: the no-heat call, the lockout, the client with a court date tomorrow.

After-hours calls are usually a minority of a business's calls; in residential HVAC they were about 1 in 10 to 1 in 7 in 2025, peaking in summer. They tend to be urgent. An AI can answer them live: it answers questions, books the next opening, sends emergencies to your on-call number if you choose, and takes the details for everything else. Forward your line after hours, or only unanswered calls, and keep your number.
Choose what happens after hours.
One setting, and the AI follows it on every call.
- Take a message
- The default: it answers, takes the details and says someone will call back, without promising a time.
- Emergencies only
- It transfers urgent calls to your on-call number and takes messages for the rest.
- Full service
- It handles calls the same way at any hour.
- Books ahead
- It can book the next open slot so the caller doesn't have to call back.
- Alerts you
- Urgent calls email you straight away; the rest arrive in the daily summary.
When voicemail or a service is enough.
Where the other option is the better choice.
- You get very few after-hours calls and they can wait for a morning callback.
- Night calls need a person's judgement every time, as in some legal or property emergencies.
What the research says.
Only figures we could trace to the original source.
Off-hours calls (weekdays before 8 AM or after 5 PM, plus weekends) were 14.1% of inbound calls for residential HVAC businesses in June 2025 and 9.8% in October. Based on ServiceTitan customers, not a national sample.

How many calls come in after hours?
It depends on the trade and the season. In ServiceTitan's 2025 HVAC data it was between about 10% and 14% of calls. Your own call log is the best guide.
Do I need to forward all my calls?
No. Forward only after hours, using a time-based rule in your phone system, or only unanswered calls, using your carrier's codes.
Can it send emergencies to my on-call tech?
Yes, if you choose "emergencies only" or "full service" and set an emergency number. Otherwise it takes the details and you're emailed straight away.
What does it tell callers after hours?
That it's an AI, that the call is transcribed, and what will happen next. It doesn't promise a callback time.
Can it book appointments at night?
Yes, into your open slots, so the caller doesn't need to call back.
Does it handle holidays?
Yes. Set holiday hours in your business details and it treats them as after hours.
What if someone's in danger?
In trades like plumbing, HVAC and electrical, dangerous signs such as a gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm or sparking get "get out and call 911 first" before anything else.
Nerro is not an emergency service and does not replace 911. Nerro doesn't record call audio. It keeps a text transcript, and every greeting tells the caller it's an AI and that the call is transcribed. Some states require every party's consent to record or transcribe calls; check your own obligations.
Put an AI employee on your line for 3 days.
Tell Nerro about your business. It builds and tests your AI employee, and you decide when it goes live.
