Calls only the leads who asked, only when it's allowed.

Calling a lead fast matters. Calling one who never agreed, or at 9:30 at night, can cost far more than the lead was worth. These are the rules Nerro applies to every call it places.

Updated · by the Nerro team

Nerro calls a lead only when there's a consent record for that lead, only between 9 AM and 8 PM in every time zone of the lead's state, no more than 3 times in 24 hours, never on a number on your do-not-call list, and never for sales on a Sunday or federal holiday. For sales calls it also checks the National Do Not Call Registry file you upload from the FTC (free for up to 5 area codes), and stops sales calls if that file is more than 31 days old. Every call opens by saying it's an AI and that the call is transcribed, and anyone who asks to stop is added to your do-not-call list with a short note of what they said.

QuestionWhat Nerro does
ConsentLeads from a form arrive with a consent record (the wording, page, time and IP address). Sales calls need that record; an uploaded list you vouch for is for follow-up calls only.
Hours9 AM to 8 PM in every time zone of the lead's state, judged by area code. That's narrower than the federal 8 AM to 9 PM.
Sundays and holidaysNo sales calls on Sundays or the 11 federal holidays. Follow-up calls on Sunday only from noon.
How oftenAt most 3 calls to a number in 24 hours, and three attempts in all: right away, after 3 hours, after a day.
Do-not-callNumbers on your list are never called, and refused at import.
Opt-out"Stop calling me" adds the number to your list, with a short note of what they said.
Caller IDLead calls go out only from a number Nerro issued, not a brought-in one.

Before the first call.

What a business has to do to call leads at all.

A paid plan
Calling leads isn't part of the free trial; it comes with the paid plans, which open when billing switches on at launch.
Business verification
Legal name, address, website, a contact and a tax ID (or the owner's name for a sole proprietor), then a review. Automatic checks can approve it at once; otherwise Nerro staff review it, usually within a business day.
Your attestations
For sales calls, that you check the National Do Not Call Registry (or upload your registry file so Nerro checks it) and hold any state registration you need.
Where leads come from
A private intake link for each form or source (Zapier can post to it, including from Meta lead ads), or a spreadsheet upload with where consent came from.

When to keep these calls with a person.

Where the other option is the better choice.

  • Leads with no written consent record: a person can reply by email, or wait for them to call.
  • Lists you bought or were given: the consent wasn't given to you, so don't call them with an AI.
  • High-value prospects where a personal call from you is the point.

What the research says.

Only figures we could trace to the original source.

  1. The FCC ruled in February 2024 that AI-generated voices are "artificial" voices under the TCPA, so these calls need the called person's prior express consent, and written consent for telemarketing.

  2. Federal rules allow telemarketing calls only between 8 AM and 9 PM in the called person's local time. Several states are stricter.

Is calling leads with an AI legal?

It can be, with the right consent. AI voices count as artificial voices under the TCPA, so you need the person's prior express consent, and written consent for sales calls. Nerro checks for a consent record, but you're responsible for getting and keeping it. Ask a lawyer about your own calls.

Does Nerro handle TCPA compliance for me?

No tool can promise that. Nerro applies conservative calling rules and keeps records, but compliance depends on your consent and how you use it.

Why 9 AM to 8 PM and not 8 to 9?

Some states end calling at 8 PM and Texas starts at 9 AM. Using the narrowest window in every time zone of the lead's state keeps one rule for everyone.

Can I upload a list of old leads?

Yes, up to 5,000 rows a file, if you say where consent came from. An uploaded list is used for follow-up calls only; sales calls need a written consent record from a form.

What happens if someone says stop?

The AI confirms, adds the number to your do-not-call list and ends politely. The number isn't called again, and a short note of what they said is kept with the entry.

Does it leave voicemails?

Once: the first attempt leaves a short message saying who called and why. Later attempts hang up on voicemail.

Can it text leads?

Not yet. Texting switches on once carrier registration for business texting is approved.

Does it say it's an AI?

Yes, in the opening line of every call, along with "This call is transcribed", and again if asked.

Nerro calls only leads you have consent to call. You're responsible for getting and keeping that consent and for following federal and state calling laws, including the TCPA and do-not-call rules. Nerro's calling rules help; they don't guarantee compliance. This isn't legal advice.
